Top Sports Card Sales in Dodgers vs. Yankees World Series
Over the past few years, the sports card industry has witnessed a surge in sales, with many cards reaching astronomical prices, surpassing the million-dollar mark. One noticeable absence from this coveted club is Shohei Ohtani, despite his remarkable talent and immense popularity. Surprisingly, Ohtani’s highest sale sits at just under $400,000, a rarity in an era dominated by high-value transactions.
As the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees prepare to battle it out in the World Series, Topps has unveiled a stunning graphic showcasing the most expensive cards for some of this year’s standout players:
– Jasson Dominguez: $474,000
– Aaron Judge: $324,000
– Juan Soto: $300,000
– Anthony Volpe: $150,000
– Mookie Betts: $123,000
The Yankees players take the lead in this list, with Jasson Dominguez reigning supreme with his 1/1 Bowman Superfractor Autograph, fetching an astonishing $474,000. Anthony Volpe also makes a significant mark with his red Bowman Chrome autograph, numbered to only five copies, selling for $150,000 for a PSA 10 version, adding another high-value card from the Yankees roster.
Juan Soto’s 1/1 Bowman Superfractor Autograph comes with an intriguing backstory. The card’s autograph was allegedly altered and subsequently regraded. There are rumors that PSA repurchased the card, making it no longer available in the market, adding a hint of mystery to its value.
Earlier this year, Fanatics and Sotheby’s joined forces for an auction featuring some of the industry’s most prized cards, including several listed in Topps’ graphic. However, there seems to be a discrepancy with Topps’ reported figures regarding Shohei Ohtani’s card. Recent data from eBay and CardLadder show that a 2018 Topps Definitive Gold Framed Shohei Ohtani Rookie Auto BGS 9.5, numbered 13/30, sold for $350,000 on October 15. This suggests that Ohtani’s highest sale might be approaching the half-million mark after all, challenging the established norms in the sports card market.
